Originally Published in 1870

Born in Dublin, in the year 1795, he was of an Anglo-Irish family connected with the Irish Established Church, which lost its status in 1869. He was educated at the Grammar School, Exeter, where he had as a school-fellow William Follett, who afterwards as an eloquent advocate distinguished himself at the English Bar; and from there Bellett proceeded to Trinity College, Dublin, now making the acquaintance — ripening into life-long friendship — of John Nelson Darby. Both were strong in classical scholarship, both read for the Bar — Bellett in London, and Darby in Dublin. Each was "called" in Dublin, and practised but for a short time, Darby relinquishing that profession when he "took Orders" whilst Bellett, who had become a decided Christian during his teens, devoted himself as a layman not only to increased spiritual self-culture but to participation in whatever religious service in those days presented itself to him as a "layman."

Bellett's public ministry, as described by one who had the privilege of enjoying it during his residence at Bath, was that of one who "talked poetry" so sweet and chaste were the sentiment and expression. The late R. Govett, of Norwich, a very good judge, who had read all the published writings of the leaders of the movement, gave as his opinion that Bellett was the most spiritual. His best known books are those on the "Patriarchs", the "Evangelists", the "Son of God", and the "Moral Glory of the Lord Jesus".

His name is dear to those who now experience exercise over the continuance of strained relations between brethren confessing common truth. J. G. Bellett's influence was all exerted in the direction of minimising alienation, and fulfilling the injunction, "be at peace among yourselves". Happy is the memory of any with such a reputation as his, of whom it can be said that, so far as is known, nothing said or left behind has been productive of or has aided dissension, but that all has tended towards removal of man-made barriers and the restoration of fellowship of heart in the fear of the Lord.

Excerpt from book: CHAPTER II Nebuchadnezzar's Dream The second chapter introduces us to the first great prophetic unfolding. It may well be called one of the great pivotal chapters of the Bible. It is the foundation of all the other visions which follow in this Book. The same revelation we find here is given in another form in the seventh chapter, only more fully. Let us remind ourselves that with the 4th verse of this chapter Daniel used the Aramaic?Babylonian language. It is used by the Prophet to the end of the Seventh Chapter. After that he writes in Hebrew. This in itself is a strong argument for the genuineness of the Book for after the Babylonian captivity Aramaic became the language of the Jewish people. If an impostor had written the book he would have written it exclusively in Aramaic. But as already stated the chapters written by Daniel in Aramaic concern the great empires which used this language and the other chapters concern the Jewish people. Now, if we divide these prophecies with this fact in mind we have at the beginning of the Aramaic portion the great dream of Nebuchadnezzar and at the close the vision of Daniel, so that the heathen King andthe Prophet of God received both communications concerning the great world monarchies, the one by a dream and the other in dream visions. But if we divide the Book in the other way, that is, make the First part, Chapter i-vi and the second from Chapter vii-xii, then we find that each portion (leaving out the first chapter which is introductory) has for its heading the times of the Gentiles. Tanakh (Tanach) Jewish Bible (1917 Jewish Publication Society Translation) was first published by the Jewish Publication Society of America in 1917. It was the first translation of the Hebrew Bible into English by a committee of Jews. It was originally published with the full title The Holy Scriptures According to the Masoretic Text: A New Translation with the Aid of Previous Versions and with Constant Consultation of Jewish Authorities.

This digital edition of the Bible provides several options for navigation on the Kindle. Please note also that navigation details might be different in the various Kindle applications for other platforms.

First, there is a fully interactive Table of Contents accessible via Go to -> table of contents in the menu. This Table of Contents provides hyperlinks to each book of the Bible. Clicking on a link to a book provides a list of chapters from which to choose. Once you click on the desired chapter, you are taken to that chapter and can flip the page to get to the desired verse if need be.

Second, when you are reading, clicking the 5-way controller to the right will advance you to the next chapter. Clicking it to the left returns you to the beginning of the present chapter, or, if you are already at the beginning of the chapter, to the beginning of the previous chapter. If you are on a page listing the chapters in a book, then clicking the 5-way controller to the right will advance you to the page listing the chapters for the next book. Clicking the 5-way controller to the left will move you back to the page listing the chapters for the previous book.

Third, you can navigate directly to a particular verse by clicking on Index in the menu and typing in the book name, chapter, and verse, with spaces separating them.
